The Data Scientist, Analytical Software Framework Or Machine Learning, is responsible for assisting with the development of Aliya’s state-of-the-art, advanced analytical machine-learning-based software framework that can ingest, structure. and model large amounts of data in different formats and from different sources. Capable of helping with the design of systems that can grow and maintain Aliya’s competitive advantage. Able to learn, assist, and when needed take initiative on various modeling assignments. 


  • Help develop key models, leveraging various data sources
  • Help manage existing models: updates/refits, monitoring, and governance tasks
  • Provide input to the strategic direction of the Analytics team and company
  • Be a great team member and able to work with, learn from, and assist machine learning experts within the company
  • Possibly work on the development of valuation (NPV) and marketing optimization models


  • Good knowledge of Python
  • Knowledge of some of the following: numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn
  • Knowledge of basic statistics and data analysis
  • Experience with open source software for data ingestion and data processing
  • Ability to both follow and take lead, depending on the situation
  • Academic or industry examples of machine learning models previously built


  • 1+ years of analytics experience, preferably in the financial industry
  • 1+ years of hands-on work with unclean, semi-structured, or unstructured data sets
  • Experience working in teams of analysts, data engineers, statisticians, and data scientists is highly preferred
  • Highly adaptive thinking with preference of back-of-the-envelope calculation abilities; Olympiad or team competitions in technical fields is a bonus too
  • Github and ability to easily switch between single and multi-processing with or without use of clusters or cloud computing
  • Experience in subprime unsecured lending credit and marketing and/or customer engagement preferred 
  • Experience in analytics (a.k.a. decision sciences) in the financial industry; in particular, for credit and marketing of unsecured lending products (development of credit risk models, valuation models, credit policy)
  • Superb analytical, math, coding, and data background
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in performing within a functional organizational environment
  • Innovative mindset—thinks beyond the status quo
  • Knowledge of agile framework with use of Atlassian or similar project management stack preferred
  • Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, H20, and/or cloud computing are preferred
  • Profiling, cross-platform adaptively, are preferred but not required


  • BS/BA degree in Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other highly quantitative field is required
  • Completion of Masters or Ph.D. in Data Science related field is preferred
  • Data Science Bootcamp is also preferred if without advanced degree


  • Position based near Stamford, CT
  • Possibility of working remotely
  • Periodic travel (average once a month travel)
